Change and uncertainty is the new normal and everyone is affected, so looking out for ourselves and each other is more important than ever before. John Kirwan (JK) and Dr Fiona Crichton discuss mental wellness and looking after yourself during these challenging times. You'll hear about JK's personal experiences, and learn some useful simple things you can do to help you feel better every day.

John Kirwan is known not only for his prowess on the rugby field, but perhaps more importantly, for his efforts to raise awareness about depression, an illness he has suffered from himself.  In this podcast episode, Sir John Kirwan and health psychology specialist Dr Fiona Crichton talk mental wellness. This was delivered as a live webinar for Master Builders members which we have chosen to release as a podcast so more people can benefit from the valuable messages that were shared.

John's goal is to reduce the stigma associated with talking about mental health, and this podcast covers:
Mental wellbeing and what it means in a daily life context
How to talk about mental wellbeing in a positive way
Tips and tricks for thriving with daily mental wellbeing
Keeping connected and opening up conversations
How work-related and personal stresses can become one and the same - financial impacts at work affect security at home
How building resilience through positive daily habits will help everyone through the 'long tail' impact of COVID
Sir John Kirwan
Humbled and honoured – they’re two words Sir John Kirwan (known to most as “JK”) often uses to describe how he feels about his contribution to a campaign to raise awareness about depression, but they’re also the same words he uses to describe his knighthood. The former All Black and 1987 Rugby World Cup winner became a “Sir” in 2012, joining a list that includes other well-known former All Blacks. However, unlike his fellow All Blacks, Kirwan was recognised as much, if not more, for his contribution outside of rugby; for services to Mental Health, having been for several years at the forefront of the campaign to heighten public awareness of depression, an illness he has suffered from himself.
