Do you find yourself overreacting to the things that people say or do? Do you feel triggered when another gives their opinion about you? Are you creating a story in your mind that has nothing to do with the reality of what is happening? In these situations it is important to pause and ask yourself if you are taking something personally and it is important to ask yourself how important is what the other is saying or doing. If it won’t matter in five years, then it is worth letting go. Kim and Tia talk about the importance of looking beyond a person’s behavior, and instead ask the other what he or she is feeling. If you can get to the root of the behavior then there is less chance of you taking it personally. Doing inner work can be difficult, but it is so worth it just to be able to show up for another without taking what the other says or does personally.
“Don't Take Anything Personally. Nothing others do is because of you. What others say and do is a projection of their own reality, their own dream. When you are immune to the opinions and actions of others, you won't be the victim of needless suffering.” ~ Don Miguel Ruiz “The Four Agreements”
