The relationship between a mother and her daughter is one of the most complicated dynamics to understand. When we have these difficult relationships with our own mother, parenting our daughter can trigger our inner child that still has healing to do. Being the mother you never had for your daughter while setting boundaries with your own mother is a challenging, but healing experience.
Today, I am joined by LisaRaye McCoy, a widely successful actress, humanitarian, entrepreneur, director, and mother. Since her movie debut in 1996, Lisa has appeared many times in a variety of television series, music videos, and movies. She is most known for her role in The Players Club, The Wood, and Civil Brand. In 2021, LisaRaye appeared on the show, Iyanla: Fix My Life, in which she shares the difficult relationship she has with her mom, what she is doing to try to mend the relationship, and how she is working to be a different mother for her daughter.
Tune in and listen to episode thirty-two of Mamaste with Tanika Ray. First, I share my reflection on my appearance on the Red Table Talk and why it was such an emotional conversation for me. Then I am joined by LisaRaye to talk about her experience healing her relationship with her mother, the impact that therapy has had on her journey, the importance of setting boundaries, and more.
