Joshua Williams and Decobie Durant got drafted to phenomenal situations with the Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Rams. There are 2 where’s in the NFL Draft: where you get drafted as in placement and where you get drafted as in team. Both of these players landed on the right side of both of those where’s. This will get them more opportunities and better development.

A great landing spot is a great start. What will Williams and Durant do with that great start though? I think Durant is better set up for a more impactful year one. There is a clearer path to immediate play time for Durant. His size suggests he would be a nickel corner, and his experience on the boundary provides attractive versatility for the Rams. Williams was drafted higher, but he enters a newly crowded Chiefs cornerback room. This would hurt his chances to get on the field quickly.

Not everybody gets drafted, and players begin fielding calls from teams after the draft. Players can sign undrafted free agent contracts or receive camp invites. There’s a clear difference between the two. One is an actual contract and the other is just an invitation to rookie minicamp. Still, both mean the player has a shot at making the team come camp. We see what HBCU prospects made it into each category.
