Was the NFL Draft a Success for HBCUs? FAMU Losing Top Defender, Isaiah Land, in Transfer Portal?

Was the NFL draft a success for HBCUs? Joshua Williams, Decobie Durant, Ja’Tyre Carter, and James Houston all got drafted but there was one person missing. Markquese Bell went undrafted, so we didn’t make it to 5 players drafted. Not hitting the threshold was a tough pill to swallow. 

Reigning Buck Buchanan winner Isaiah Land has entered his name into the transfer portal. If he were to leave FAMU, the impact would be felt on FAMU and HBCUs. It would be nice to keep all the talent in HBCUs. That just doesn’t happen for many small schools. For FAMU, they’re going to have to replace the best defender in the FCS last year. Land would just be one of many losses for FAMU’s defense. 

I’m tired of people talking about Deion Sanders leaving Jackson State. I understand it’s a real possibility, but the continuous harping on it feels unnecessary. Also, by only focusing on where Prime could land next, it takes away from all he’s doing for JSU and HBCUs in general.
