In 2017, Health and safety executive research showed that there were 12.5million absence days due to stress, anxiety and depression.  But health professionals and researchers believe that this is only the tip of the iceberg because workers would rather tell their bosses that they have anything and every other kind of condition, rather than tell their bosses they have depression.

Last week was the first in our three-part series about low mood and depression and the impact both have in preventing you from living your best life.  In last week’s episode, I spoke about the impact of low mood and depression in our personal lives. This week I’m looking at the impact of low mood and depression at work; the legal responsibilities your employer has to support you to remain in your job and to work safety in your job; and the actions you can take to minimise the impact of your low mood and depression on your job.

The main thing I want you to take away from this week’s episode is that you don’t have to suffer in silence at work.  It’s likely that you will need your job to have any chance of being able to live your best life.  Reach out to someone you trust and most of all, use your employment rights under the Equality Act to the strategies in this week’s episode to protect yourself at work.
