Let Them Eat Takes

51 episodes - English - Latest episode: 11 months ago -

A sports podcast for the outrage era. In this show, we’re either admiring the dumpster fire or putting out the flames. We talk sports, opinions about sports, sometimes weird video games involving sports, people shouting at each other over sports, but also (at least once an episode) we find takes about sports that unite all of us, no matter which teams we root for. We have heard the cries of hungry sports fans out there, and thus we say, "LET THEM EAT TAKES!"

No. 044 - The Venn Diagram of College Football and Federation Football

November 11, 2022 04:14 - 48 minutes - 67 MB

College football has its blue bloods. Soccer, the sport of the world, also has blue bloods, and all the weird prejudices and stereotypes that entails. This week, we dive into why NFL scouts incorrectly assessed Brock Osweiller for very similar reasons that a mediocre striker from Brazil might get picked up by a European club. We also diagnose the ass-kicking that happened in Athens, why Vol fans on twitter are insane, and why we're not as confidant as they are that Tennessee would beat Georg...

No. 43 - Tennessee's Offense is Kinda Old (But Very Good)

November 03, 2022 19:28 - 1 hour - 90.8 MB

We're getting straight to the point in this episode and discussing the No. 1 Georgia Bulldogs and the No. 1 Tennessee Volunteers playing in Athens Saturday. What calamity might ensue? Plus, Scott gives us some thoughts on the long-term outlook of Josh Heupel's Tennessee program. We mention the World Series, but we don't linger too much because we're still really vexed about Robert Manfred's primetime ban on the Braves. Jonathan's son is terrified of Blooper, the nation is sick of John Smoltz...

No. 042 - Jimbo's Playbook is Kinda Old (and Probably Too Long)

October 28, 2022 03:16 - 54 minutes - 74.3 MB

Coaches love winning, but do they love winning more than winning their way? We ask this question as it looks like Jimbo Fisher is going to have to put down "War and Peace" and instead read "Who Moved My Cheese?" if he wants to stay in Aggieland. Same sentiment applies to Kirk Ferentz, who is very lucky to be coaching Iowa and not asking questions about why his son's offense stinks. The 2008 Florida Gators are finally getting a docuseries; speaking of the Gators, Kirby Smart hates them so muc...

No. 41 - Coverage Double Ain't No Trouble

October 13, 2022 18:43 - 1 hour - 103 MB

This week, we dunk on the Mets for failing to sell out a primetime postseason elimination game, Jimbo Fisher's red zone offense, Brian Snitker's bullpen management, Iowa's offense (again), and Bryce Young's inspiring Facebook post after the 24-20 win over Texas A&M. We also ask important questions like: do NFL coaches really overuse analytics? How bad is Oklahoma right now? Is it Stetson Bennett's fault that Georgia doesn't have a reliable X-receiver? Can college football really handle the V...

No. 040 - Reanimated Remains of Bear Bryant in Talks for Wisconsin Job

October 05, 2022 03:12 - 1 hour - 91.1 MB

This week, we talk about some of the big moves in Madison, Jimbo Fisher's buyout (should that line of total insanity be pursued by Texas A&M), Tom Brady getting an extra finger available for some hardware, and we'll react to the Braves sweeping the Mets en route to winning another NL East pennant. Justin shares the darkness he discovered while watching Georgia struggle against Missouri and we all share what we're looking forward this next weekend in college football.

No. 039 - "This is Fine..."

September 22, 2022 11:26 - 49 minutes - 114 MB

On this one, Kevin and Jonathan talk about the Braves, college football, and lament the Falcons. Jonathan pretends he is a therapist and gives Kevin a safe space to vent his frustration about his two favorite college programs (GA Tech & Auburn) being fully ablaze in a dumpster fire right now. We end by reminiscing on how we came to support the programs and teams we love.

No. 038 - God Save the Coach!

September 15, 2022 21:10 - 49 minutes - 67.7 MB

Today, we're talking about one of college football's most celebrated dynasties (not Alabama, though we'll get to them). Jonathan asks the most important question in the sport: how bad is Iowa's offense, really? Kevin thinks there's something wrong with Stetson Bennett, Scott reassesses Greyson Lambert's record setting game that made Steve Spurrier want to quit, and Justin found another baffling case of public domain laws being exploited to horrifying ends. We'll also talk about that performa...

No. 037 - Is it Halloween, or Falcons Season?

September 09, 2022 20:17 - 1 hour - 103 MB

In this edition, Scott and Justin recap week 1 of college football, look ahead to what might be interesting down the road this year, and also talk about what's going on in the division races of the MLB. Scott braces himself for his first Atlanta Falcons season since moving back from California (and for the first time since Matt Ryan finally escaped), Justin struggles to get good audio again, plus our dynamic duo gets hyped for a new horror movie that breaks ground on some spicy copyright law...

No. 036 - "When will _____ Get Fired?" (CFB Week 1 Preview)

September 02, 2022 18:23 - 1 hour - 87.4 MB

It's only week 1 but it's never too early to talk about what coaches are getting fired this year. Will Scott Frost make it to to Halloween? Will Geoff Collins get 4 wins for the 404? Who's helping Bryan Harsin get his buyout this year? So many possibilities! Week 1 has already been a blast and we're excited for the weekend games.

No. 035 - Urban Meyer, Auburn Tigers Head Coach (The 2022 College Football Preview)

August 25, 2022 19:04 - 1 hour - 91.6 MB

Bet you didn't think we'd get one out before the CFB season started, did ya? We are talking exclusively college football this episode and we're excited to be dropping it just days before Week 0 begins. And what a week 0 it is! Nebraska and Northwestern in Ireland, Austin Peay and Western Kentucky, Hawaii and Vandy... why, it's murderers row for gambling addicts! We'll talk what storyline we think are interesting this season, what teams will disappoint, which ones will dominate, and we'll get...

No. 034 - Pumping That Premium

June 04, 2022 17:11 - 52 minutes - 72.3 MB

We're back... again! We've emerged from our championship-induced comas and we're back in the saddle again to talk sports (and this time, more than just college football!). We'll talk NBA, NHL (kind of), some soccer, a soccer player who bit people, a horse who bit other horses after winning the Kentucky Derby, baseball, and of course a little CFB. More importantly, well will be giving you, the listener, a peak into the future of developing college quarterbacks (and it's not what you think). H...

No. 033 - Athens Better Throw Stetson Bennett IV the Biggest Party Ever

January 13, 2022 16:49 - 56 minutes - 77.6 MB

In this episode, we're talking all Dawgs. There is no barking in this episode but we will revel in the glory of a National title finally making its way back to Athens for the first time since 1980. We'll talk about our favorite moments from the game, what we think it will mean for Georgia going forward, and of course we'll spend a decent amount of time talking about the man of the hour Stetson Bennett IV. We'll talk about his Good Morning America appearance, a good restaurant to go to in Bla...

No. 032 - Grits, Ayahuasca, and other Musings for the CFP Championship Game

January 07, 2022 19:58 - 54 minutes - 74.8 MB

Today's episode is brought to you by grits- the official food of offensive linemen in the college football playoff. Just kidding, it's brought to you by podcasters like us (but for listeners like you!).  Today we're zeroing in on the big game Monday. We'll tell you how we think it's gonna go, and also how we're going to cope if our team doesn't win (if you're new around here, welcome to the homercast edition).  Scott will explain to Justin all the drama around Caleb Williams, Jonathan will...

No. 031 - Nick Saban is Kirby Smart's Daddy (and everyone else's, too)

December 10, 2021 20:53 - 55 minutes - 76.3 MB

Today we're diving into the deep end to explore the depths of human darkness which Georgia fans find themselves in (and hopefully rescuing a few poor, unfortunate souls in the process). What went wrong for Georgia? Can they do any better in a potential rematch? How crazy is it that Cincinnati made the playoff? We'll also talk Georgia's quarterback situation; would playing JT Daniels have made any difference in the SEC title game?  Other tidbits: Would Kobe Bryant be vaccinated if he were a...

No. 030 - Brian Kelly Can't Handle Putting Tabasco On His Eggs.

December 03, 2021 00:03 - 57 minutes - 79.1 MB

It's championship week! We're devoting extra airtime to the game of the week, the one we've all been waiting for... Oregon vs Utah in the Pac12 Championship! Just kidding, we're talking about the SEC Championship mostly, please keep listening. Other talking points: Billy Napier becoming the next head Gator.  Is Lincoln Riley going to USC because he's too chicken for the SEC? What Notre Dame fans think of Brian Kelly leaving (and how this affects the playoff picture) What kind of coach w...

No. 029 - Chipper Jones Murdered a Sports Agent, Plus the Top 10 Wins of Georgia Tech Under Geoff Collins

November 24, 2021 19:18 - 1 hour - 90.4 MB

Everything this episode is about is in the title.... just kidding, we're not spending all our time today talking about funerals. As is customary, we will talk a lot of college football, some of us will give some takes that aged well, others not so well (Clemson has defied our expectations!). This episode was recorded before Dan Mullen got the sack but don't worry, we'll come back after Thanksgiving to talk about that delightful story. If you're a futbol fan you'll enjoy this one because we'l...

No. 028 - December Dysphoria!

November 11, 2021 20:14 - 1 hour - 84.7 MB

Sorry it's been two weeks but we've just riding the sweet, sweet high of that Braves World Series win. In case you forgot the wise words of Joc Pederson, we are those motherf*ckers. We will spend a healthy amount of time reveling in this Peach State triumph, but we'll also talk about Georgia Tech football; an entity that, like the Braves, has become closely associated with Waffle House. We'll also talk the playoff format expansion and debate whether or not this inevitable trend is killing ...

No. 027 - Hi, My Name is Dave Roberts and I'm a Bullpen Addict.

October 27, 2021 21:05 - 57 minutes - 78.4 MB

It's World Series Time! Game 1 is already in the books and Game 2 will be underway just hours after this uploads but we couldn't resist the opportunity to have a homercast moment with the Atlanta Braves getting their first NL pennant in over two decades. We'll talk about Dave Roberts being hooked on his own bullpen like Chipper Jones to underage waitresses and the self-inflicted wounds that might have caused in their postseason and we'll also discuss some interesting post-series comments mad...

No. 026 - A Tu Casa, A Tu Casa, Vamos el Freddi!

October 13, 2021 21:30 - 1 hour - 86.9 MB

Imagine, if you will, an alternate universe in which Freddie Freeman grew up in Venezuela. Perhaps his family are Italians that were displaced to this Latin American country (perhaps, even, by the mob). Maybe his name is just simply, "el Freddi." Maybe this bizarro version of Freddie Freeman also doesn't want to move to California since he has no ties to the West coast state. This week, we somehow get on this hypothetical train as Jonathan gives us some insights into the Spanish language, La...

No. 025 - Bo Nix Has Solved the Bayou Temple!

October 07, 2021 17:54 - 41 minutes - 57.5 MB

As one pundit put it, Bo Nix has to explore the backfield on every play as if it were a Legend of Zelda dungeon; tediously scouring the map for any hidden rupees or heart pieces. We'll recap some of his magical antics this week as well as say auf wiedersehen to Notre Dame's playoff chances this year (auf wiedersehen because you know we'll back here next season staring them down as an unworthy playoff contender). What does Aloha mean if you're a quarterback from Hawaii? How many feline mascot...

No. 024 - The Dr. Pepper Curse

September 30, 2021 22:01 - 50 minutes - 69.2 MB

Here we come, sliding into your podcast feed on the eve of another exciting college football weekend! We can't stop saying it but holy cow this is a weird season. We'll give a recap of all that happened last weekend, a few picks ahead of this one, and we'll spend some extra time talking about how far south things have gone in Dabo's world. Is being the Dr. Pepper Athlete the Madden Curse of college football? Plus we'll unite around a nice take given about Mark Melancon and his team's exit fr...

No. 023 - Ask Your Doctor if BoNix is Right for You.

September 22, 2021 21:38 - 1 hour - 96.8 MB

This week, we're reacting once again to the last week's results in the college football season. We'll talk Fresno State beating UCLA without a QB with functioning hips, Auburn's Bo Nix (and why he's easy to make fun of), Florida getting showered in praise after another loss to Alabama, another bad and lazy take by Dan Wolken, Connor McGregor's first pitch at a Cubs game, plus a new segment we like to call, "Is this Incest?" (and NO, this isn't about Auburn).

No. 022 - The Ghost of Matt Ryan

September 15, 2021 22:06 - 1 hour - 83.1 MB

As you might have deduced by the title of this episode, we will mourn the once promising career of Atlanta Falcons QB/crash test dummy Matt Ryan (and say a prayer that he will be traded to a mid-tier-at-minimum franchise before his career ends). But before we unite over the slow death that has occurred within all of us over that horrible team, we will talk a lot of college football. We'll talk about a marriage proposal at the end of FSU/Jacksonville State, a cat that stole the show at a Miam...

No. 021 - Chunky Checks for Cupcakes, the Irish Inquisition, Bama Beatdown Blues, & A Dollop of Duke's Mayo.

September 07, 2021 21:27 - 40 minutes - 56 MB

This week, we give our reactions to the Labor Day weekend of football. We'll talk about a proposal that was made that would make pay-games all the more interesting, some weird stuff Brian Kelly said, the tragedy Bama fans must suffer from all this winning, Georgia vs. Clemson (were their offenses literally slipping and falling on mayonnaise?), the current status of the Peach State's third/fourth most prestigious football program, plus Scott gives us his overall thoughts on what we learned du...

No. 020 - Ain't Gonna Happen (2021 College Foobaw Preview) with Daniel Bailey

September 01, 2021 21:20 - 57 minutes - 78.7 MB

This one's all college football baby! This week, we welcome Daniel Bailey onto our show to preview this season and discuss a ranking system he himself created. We briefly review what happened during week 0, why recruiting still matters, where power football belongs these days, hot seats, cold takes, and more. Bonus material: we'll unite around a minor league baseball umpire who was booed for being a tool to a dog and we get an update on Cam Newton.  Daniel's Ranking System: https://docs.goo...

No. 019 - Corgis Will Be the End of All Other Sports.

August 25, 2021 20:36 - 32 minutes - 44.3 MB

We got a shorty for you this week; jammed pack with corgis, more preseason college nonsense, some stuff about Blooper (the Braves mascot), plus a unifying (?) story about the now defunct Atlanta Thrashers.

No. 018 - NCAA President Mark Emmert Basically Gets Paid to be Mercilessly Scorned.

August 20, 2021 20:24 - 43 minutes - 60.3 MB

This week, we take a look at that most celebrated of snake oils which is preseason college football rankings. Jonathan and Scott get into a heated debate over the front office decisions of the Atlanta Braves, we all get a kick out of Tim Tebow at the H-back, and Gardner Minshew reminds us all why he's still number one in our hearts even if he doesn't have that ranking in the depth chart. Oh yeah, we also get into a discussion on how Mark Emmert basically gets paid lots of money to be a well-...

No. 017 - Now Welcoming the Newest SEC Member, the Planet Mars (Season 2 Kickoff!)

August 10, 2021 21:20 - 55 minutes - 75.7 MB

After months of hot take doldrums, we have dusted off our microphones and have resumed the noble task of digging up bad sports opinions online and dishing out some takes of our own. We'll talk about the Olympics, some basketball, some futbol and some football, plus we'll even talk a bit about fine European baking. Will the SEC ever have enough? Will Aubrey Huff finally shut his mouth for once? Did a Rockies fan really scream a racial slur on national television? Will Scott ever be pleased wi...

No. 016 - College Foobaw Wrap-Up Pt. 1

January 11, 2021 22:37 - 52 minutes - 72.7 MB

Not much to say other than come and get this one while it's still hot. Also, what pictures would you like to see JT Daniels' beautiful mugshot superimposed on?

No. 016 - College Foobaw Wrap-Up (2020 Season)

January 11, 2021 22:37 - 52 minutes - 72.7 MB

Not much to say other than come and get this one while it's still hot. Also, what pictures would you like to see JT Daniels' beautiful mugshot superimposed on?

No. 015 - Kevin's Bullish on the Blazers (NBA Special #2)

December 15, 2020 22:08 - 1 hour - 123 MB

We have successfully re-emerged from hibernation to deliver yet another installment of your favorite sports pod. Joining us again is Kevin Sprague to talk all things NBA. We’ll get into the draft, the antics of James Harden, which teams are exciting, which teams you should be watching, which teams you should be actively hating, our new favorite sports mascot (HINT: he's from Orlando) and we take a brief detour through college football. Kevin's twitter: @Kevin_D_Sprague Our twitter/Instagram: ...

No. 014 - Robert Manfred is Not a Human Being.

November 19, 2020 22:03 - 59 minutes - 81.1 MB

So, we took a long break; turns out October was way too outrageous even for a Sports Podcast for the outrage era.  But lament no more;  we’re back, and we’re doling out the harshness like never before. This episode was recorded about a week before it finally uploads so forgive us if we’re a bit tardy, but this was mostly a catch-up for us. We’ll revisit the World Series, talk about the state of the NFL, and we’ll devote an entire homer segment to discuss Kirby smart and Georgia’s quarterback ...

No. 013 - The Bayou Airboat Raid Offense

October 02, 2020 22:12 - 1 hour - 92.5 MB

Air raid is cool. You know what would be cooler? An airboat raid, which is what we think will be the next stage of LSU's offensive evolution. We got lots of good stuff to talk about this week: Colin Cowherd’s vendetta against backwards hats a satirical web article that went viral for being taken seriously, some thoughts about Mike Leach and the air raid coming back to the SEC, some overreactions to week 1 of SEC play, Trevor Bauer, Freddie Freeman, the Baseball postseason, and we’ll share our...

No. 012 - Gone With the Quinn

September 26, 2020 05:46 - 1 hour - 94.8 MB

The Atlanta Falcons should have fired Dan Quinn and hired Kyle Shanahan immediately after Super Bowl LI. Now that that is out of the way we can resume our episode description. Did you know there are baseball players, but then there are dudes? If you're not paying attention to golf, then you need to because Bryson DeChambeau (to learn more, go to his Twitch channel). We'll go over college football matchups (which will be occurring upon the date of this upload) and we'll talk about a hotdog pri...

No. 011 - Shut Up & Gallop.

September 19, 2020 20:00 - 1 hour - 88.9 MB

This LTET might not be as hot and ready as a Little Caesar's $5 pizza, but the takes therein are certified fresh by us. We recorded this before the Big 10 announced its return to college football so some of the discussions are a bit behind on the news; however, we will be recording the day after this episode releases so we will talk about that in greater detail then. But we still got lots of good stuff to talk about; we’re talking football, baseball, equestrian sports, wildfires, Madden footb...

No. 010 - The Bougiest Loser (NBA Draft Special)

August 29, 2020 14:53 - 1 hour - 101 MB

In this episode, the LTET crew offers its thoughts on the most recent NBA draft. "But wait," your mind rudely interrupts this podcast summary, "with the exception of Scott, you guys know absolutely nothing about professional basketball." And you're right... which is why we brought on to the show our very first guest, Kevin Sprague. Kevin is a basketball superfan and blogger and offers us some great insight into the state of the league. Other topics in this episode include some soccer, the "ju...

No. 009 - If You Know What Will Fix College Football, Send It To [email protected]

August 17, 2020 06:07 - 1 hour - 119 MB

Seriously though; the good folks in Oxford, Mississippi and elsewhere would love to know what's gonna save college football if you have some suggestions (but letting the players have some of the profits ain't an answer they want just yet). We'll talk all things college football, some baseball, some golf, Lou Williams, some really good hot wings (from a rather unlikely place), a Michael Jordan video game that's bananas, all wrapped up in a touching moment in which we revel in how lame the Dall...

No. 008 - Ode to Joe Kelly

August 05, 2020 03:59 - 1 hour - 104 MB

Today, we make sports takes history in the discovery of a take that inexplicably escaped from the multiverse and into our humble plane of existence. We're talking lots and lots of baseball, some soccer, CFB (which now stands for "COVID football'), some Atlanta sports lamentations, plus a retro football video game we should all be playing instead of Madden.

No. 007 - The Washington Radskins

July 19, 2020 17:02 - 1 hour - 86.6 MB

In our two week hiatus from posting new installments of LTET, we heard your cries for sports takes and we are back; ready to gingerly spoon them into your mouths, pour them in your ears, or inject them directly into your bloodstream if that's what your doctor has ordered. And if you like your takes to be edgy and controversial (and maybe with that delayed spiciness that hits you in the back of your throat), you're in good luck.  We'll be talking about all things COVID-19 related in sports, th...

No. 006 - Babushka Cam Newton

July 03, 2020 15:25 - 54 minutes - 74.7 MB

First off, that was a noose in the Talladega garage. Secondly, we're giddy about all the winter apparel Cam Newton will wear now that he is in an appropriate climate to do so. The MLB is coming back, so that's nice (and if you think the rule changes are bad, well, you're wrong). Other topics of interest this week are:  Ryan Anderson apparently wants CTE. Colin Cowherd's dubious assessments of "arm" and "talent." A take from Jason Whitlock that's actually not bad. USA Today contributor (a...

No. 005 - Mike Gundy's Deepfake Apology Video (You Heard it Here First!)

June 18, 2020 13:14 - 1 hour - 97.5 MB

Another week, another hour of three passionate sports fans figuring out they don't know as much about sports as they previously thought. Will that stop us from making broad, authoritative statements? Not a chance. On the docket for this entry is Mike Gundy's teleprompter/bodysnatcher apology, an argument for Barry Bonds' induction to the Hall of Fame (and a weird proposal for re-injecting steroids into Major League Baseball), more wisdom from the mouth of the righteous Cardinal Dan Wolken, pl...

No. 004 - Roll Tide Roll! (Test 'Bama Test)

June 09, 2020 22:23 - 45 minutes - 62.4 MB

This week we give an update on college football's war on COVID-19, spend the bare minimum of time required to talk about the MLB feud, talk Drew Brees' excellent pocket awareness (and how it hasn't translated to actual awareness), and we introduce an exciting new segment to our show. Other topics: Kentucky Cheerleading's scandalous basket toss-gate, a guy running for senate in Alabama who is using football metaphors to debate his opponent (who used to coach at Auburn), and a curling video gam...

No. 003 - A Hasty Take Smorgasbord (05/28)

May 29, 2020 22:20 - 1 hour - 98.3 MB

This week, we take some creative liberties with the word "hasty" and go on an unchecked spree of sports bloviation.... so yeah, the usual. Following up with NFL Head Coach 2006, Scott shares some insights from his virtual life as the Atlanta Scorpion Lollipop's newest head coach. We touch on some soccer, some golf, some bad takes from the usual suspects, a crazy hockey video game that may or may not include playable shrimp people, some SEC football (hitting on the transfer of J.T. Daniels to ...
