If you really believe what you do makes a difference, why keep it secret?

Freelancers, solopreneurs, contractors and others who work for them self’s in this gig based economy often spend much of their time and money “honing their craft” as they should. Unfortunately, the process often prevents them from growing their business.

They spend all their time, energy and attention not to mentions money gaining more wisdom, education, certifications, and presumed authority until they have nothing left for marketing.

There is a great truth “if you want to grow your business offer a phenomenal quality product or service.” This is a powerful truth because the most effective and cost efficient means of marketing is “word of mouth.” Nothing brings in more business then a good referral based on a good recommendation.

HOWEVER, if the referral speaks of a top notch business operation and then points them to a second rate website, or a business owner who has no website, no quality business cards, no marketing collateral to help support the idea - then the referral falls flat. Not because the quality of your product or service is diminished, but because the IMPRESSION IS.
Make sure your marketing materials, efforts and direction strategically match the quality of what you offer!
Make sure you don’t break the “referral chain of custody” when someone recommends you by sending them something that doesn’t represent you well.
Don’t keep yourself a secret. Market yourself,”. Sell your services. If you believe what you do helps to make lives better don’t keep it a secret.
