LM1176 I’m Scared of Zenia

A few years ago I got a call from a woman named Zenia from Holton, KS. 

Zenia is a social worker at the hospital in Holton.  She calls me, “I saw you speak at the Kansas Home Care conference and I loved it.  I do a nursing conference here and I want you as the keynote speaker.”

I’m available for the date, but when I start discussing my fee, she says, “I have $1,000.”

I tell her, “Let me help you find someone who’s fee is close to your budget.”

Zenia says, “No, you’re going to be the keynote speaker and you’lll need to do it for $1,000,” so I accepted because, quite frankly, I was scared not to.  .

I have known many social workers over the years, I have never met one as assertive as Zenia. But Zenia explains how vulnerable nurses are to stress and burnout and she was determined, by hook or crook, that she was going to bring them an hour of content to help them reduce both and one filled with laughs and, in the process, she reminded me why I do this.  Thank you, Zenia.  I know you’ll always remember laughter matters.
