In this episode we come to you from a simpler time when we were so innocent and had more hopes for the Toronto Blue Jays’ chances this year. In the present, yay, Karen’s semester is over and there are more episodes to come soon.
In Adventures in Knitting, Karen has made some progress on the There and Back Again Story Scarf despite the occasional dropped stitch. She’s also been working on the Smocks of Love socks as well as the Twisted Vine stitch patterned socks. If that wasn’t enough she’s also started the Passion Flowers shawl and started doing some spinning, because she had *no freaking idea* how crazy her schedule was about to get. Meanwhile Maggie has also been practicing her spinning (after finding out the difference between roving and top) and is working on a Milanese Lace Topper from the results, and has been working on her Neldoreth socks and her There & Back Again. She’s also been doing some blocking, though she’s now learned the lesson that blocking and cats do not mix.
In Geek Squee, OMG THERE’S GOING TO BE A SHERLOCK CHRISTMAS EPISODE….in 2015. Queen Elizabeth visited the set of Game of Thrones and was five feet from the Iron Throne but never actually sat in it, making photo captioners weep worldwide, we finally have a release date for Season 8 of Doctor Who (which coincidentally enough has perfect timing for the Who program Karen’s doing at her library), Matt Smith as well as “a couple friends” will be at Fan Expo this year and it’s been confirmed that Nathan Fillion has a cameo in Guardians of the Galaxy. In techy news, there’s a movement headed by Google and Code School to teach girls to code, the Tesla electric car company is making all their patents open-source, there’s a movement to get NASA’s funding increased and Karen’s found some interesting card games based on the idea of time travel, one of which is hilarious in that sick-sense-of-humour kind of way. Also we have to give all the props to Alicia Montano, Olympic track athlete who ran an 800m race while 8 months pregnant. SO METAL.
In Cravings Covets and Crushes, Cookie A has designed the very socks you’re looking for, the Jedi Mind Trick socks, for Marvel fans there’s the Wolverine’s Adamantium Socks (complete with slipped stitches for his claws!) and if you need a truly awesome knitting basket, there’s the Legacy Leather Knitting Basket from Renaissance Art Handmade Leather.
