January 30th is the birthday of perhaps the most vilified public figure of the Victorian era in Ireland - Katherine O'Shea. A name you might not really recognise until you hear her described as Kitty O'Shea.
The story of her "affair" with Charles Stewart Parnell remains one of the great media circuses of Irish and British history. You might even say that Kitty O'Shea was the first person to be the target of sustained tabloid ridicule given the controversy coincided with the emergence of that new form of press.
