Welcome to episode five of the one thing podcast. This is the perfect time to talk about spring cleaning. We are not going to be talking about spring cleaning or decluttering your home. That is not a topic that I enjoy talking about. Leave that to the experts out there in that area.

Instead, we are going to be talking about spring cleaning those dusty old habits and thought patterns that you and I and all of us have just running in autopilot within our lives.

According to the University of Scranton, 92% of people who set New Years resolutions fail to achieve them. It's become very clear that a lot of people have a lot of big ideas and goals, but they are not actually achieving them. That is a huge problem. Why are we not able to do this?

A huge part of what goes into accomplishing a goal is around your mindset. Achieving a goal is 80% mindset and 20% tactics.

We have two major key points here at play. Number one, 82% of people who set New Years resolutions fail to achieve them. Number two, by consistently practicing becoming more self aware of thoughts that we are thinking, we can start to identify the limiting beliefs that we have running in the background of our lives, and how that is affecting our energy output, which goes into our goals.

Now, these two key points are very interrelated, because as we just talked about, your goals are 80% mindset. Those thoughts and those habits that you have running in autopilot, are what is either driving you to reach your goals, or is blocking you from reaching your goals.

Did you set New Years resolution this year in 2021? Or, did you set goals in any time in the last three months or quarter one, or whenever you were listening to this?

So, if you did set any goals in the last three months, have you made any progress on achieving them? Are you consistently still working toward them? If the answer is no, you are not making any progress, or you've given up or you have hit a wall, no judgment, because a 92% of the population is in the same boat as you.

So let's take this opportunity, with it being spring, to reassess some of those cobwebs in our minds and in our lives, metaphorically speaking. Let's identify just one and get rid of it.

We're all busy women who have a lot of things going on. As you're listening to this, you might already know what some of those dusty patterns and habits might be for you. Maybe you know, and maybe you don't. If you don't know, that is totally okay.

That is where reflection work will really come in handy for you. If you do have something that comes to mind right away, that you are ready to let go of, maybe it is a just a recurring thought that you have about yourself that is just not productive or helpful, then I encourage you to use this opportunity to let that go.

If you don't know, I encourage you to either spend some time journaling, meditating, or sitting down and intentionally thinking through it. What are some different habits and thought patterns that you have?

Once you have identified a dusty old habit or pattern that you are ready to let go of the spring, write it down. This is really important. Don't just think about this, and then forget about it.

It could just be as simple as letting go of a recurring negative thought that you have about yourself every single day. It will take some work, it will take some effort. It's not going to be just the snap of a finger.

The question is, what is your dusty old pattern or habit that you're ready to give up this spring? I would love to know what it is. So please connect with me on Instagram.
