18. The Great Resignation: The Way We Work is Shifting

As we head into the middle of summer in 2021, the pandemic seems to be winding down & companies are bringing employees back into the office at full force. However, it's becoming abundantly clear that the philosophy around how, when and where we work is shifting.

There are different schools of thought on this. Not everyone wants to "return to normal". People are seeking new opportunities  that compliment the lifestyle of their choice. More and more people are are resigning from their jobs which is leaving employers scrambling to fill the roles - often to no avail.

Host Kristin Zeier speaks on her experience with this topic in her 9-5 job in the employee benefits broker space. She works with clients across all sectors and they are all experiencing a massive shortage of talent. Some are calling the post-pandemic mass exodus, "The Great Resignation". 

While this is going on, there is another fascinating thing occurring: opportunities for online business are booming. People are trading their traditional jobs in the pursuit of online business, in particular, the self-education industry.  By 2025, Forbes projects that the self-education industry will be a $1Billion dollar per day industry.

This is incredibly attractive as online businesses allow people to create the income they want, the freedom they want and the fulfillment they want. People can truly live a life by design. We have more opportunities for how we work, when we work, where we work and how much money we make, more than ever before.

Kristin predicts that we are at the tip of the iceberg. She does not think things will ever return to pre-pandemic "normalcy". While there are incredible opportunities for many, this will prove to be extremely challenging for businesses who do not adapt to the changing needs of their employees.
