Tony Robbins is a world renowned business & life strategist and coach. In this episode, host Kristin Zeier focuses on two of her current favorite Tony Robbins lessons she has learned.

Tony Robbins Lesson #1:

The first Tony Robbins lesson is that life is happening for us and not to us. Kristin provides her interpretation of what this means and shares insight into how this has helped her shift her mindset around some of the biggest obstacles she has ever experienced.

By learning how to shift your perspective around events & circumstances in your past & present, you can quickly shift the direction and growth of your life. Instead of thinking that circumstances are happening to you and holding you back, you can flip the narrative & view these things as experiences that are serving you.

For example, Kristin provides an example of being rear-ended by someone else who is at fault. If you are thinking of this in terms of something that is happening to you, you may become upset, frustrated, stressed out and angry. You allow it to throw off your entire day. It becomes a pain point in your life.

On the flip side, if you are rear ended and someone else is at fault, you can choose to use this opportunity to express compassion towards the other person. Maybe you use this opportunity to become more patient. Or, to learn how to let go of the control of all outcomes and learn to accept things as they come & roll with it.

This is the same circumstance but two very different perspectives around it.

Lesson #1 Exercise:

In the next 2 days, take 20 minutes and identify an experience from your past that you perceive to be something that happened to you (versus for you). Write the story of what happened as it currently stands in your mind.

Next, brainstorm a list of ways this experience helped to shape you into who you are today. How did you grow from it? What did you gain and experience? How did that experience perfectly serve & prepare you for where you are today?

Tony Robbins Lesson #2:

The second Tony Robbins lesson that Kristin shares in this episode is that most people underestimate what they can do in a decade and overestimate what they can do in a year.

Instead of thinking of your future in terms of one year goals, Tony says that we should be thinking of our life in terms of the theme for decades at a time.

While we can set goals within the decade timeframe, the idea is not to have a ten year detailed plan. Instead, when you have a theme or a destination in mind, you allow things to unfold and evolve around you.

Although you keep your focus on the theme or destination, you are open to new opportunities, new paths and new insights. You course correct when needed but allow things to unfold organically along the way.

This is a much more enjoyable way to live out your life and enjoy the journey while also reaching your destination.

Lesson #2 Exercise:

Decide what the theme is going to be for the next 10 years of your life. Don't worry about the details or how you will make it happen. Simply identify the theme and set one goal you can accomplish this year that will align you with that theme.
