Today’s guest is none other than Miss Jackie Nguyen! Jackie is the owner and CEO of “Cafe Ca Phe”, Kansas City’s first ever Vietnamese coffee shop, a business advisor for Pretty Rich Bosses as well as a former Broadway actress.

In this episode, Jackie vulnerably shares her experience of the responsibilities and pressures she faced growing up as a first generation Vietnamese-American, that I’m sure many Asian Americans can relate to.

Being the only child (out of 4 other siblings) that was born in America, and the only daughter at that, the struggle was real for her to get perfect grades and succeed in all areas of her life. So much so, that Jackie faced many mental health issues, such as manic depression and anxiety, starting early on in her teenage years. The road hasn't been easy, but Jackie refused to let these issues stop her from reaching her goals and instead found healthy ways to manage these health concerns so that she could move forward powerfully in her career.

One of my favorite things about this episode is that Jackie really gets us grounded by highlighting a lot of the things that many of us take for granted in this country, like opportunities and privilege. This interview is filled with many perspectives of how life can be so different depending on what you look like and where you come from, but more importantly how to use those things as an advantage instead of a disadvantage.
