QOD-7: Aaron Walker - Can't Couldn't Do It

I Think I Can, I Think I Can!

Today's Quote of the Day is from Aaron Walker, my guest on Goal Getting Podcast Episode 18. Aaron's quote is from his Mom, Nanny Lou, and he keeps this on the wall of his office:

Can't couldn't do it. Could did it all!
-- Nanny Lou, (Aaron's Mom)

That quote has led Aaron to be a very successful entrepreneur. Can't isn't a word he uses in his vocabulary. And if you want to be successful at any of your goals Can't shouldn't be in yours either.

I remember growing up and reading the book, The Little Engine That Could, originally published in 1930. The theme of the story is a long train is stranded because none of the big engines would try to take it up and over the big hill. The little engine volunteers for the job and As it was trying to get up the high hill and struggling with the large, long train behind it, it keeps repeating,

"I Think I Can, I Think I Can, I Think I Can . . . And it does!

It succeeded when others wouldn't even try.

So, The moral of the story is what Aaron's Mom, Nanny Lou taught Aaron, Can't Couldn't Do it, Could Did It All. Thanks Nanny Lou for giving Aaron a great inspiration as a child.

There are two lessons to this and the story of The Little Train That Could.

Volunteer For Stuff

The first one is that to be great, you have to be willing to volunteer for things.

Back when I was young, I often had people tell me "Never volunteer for anything." When I joined the Army National Guard at 18, that was the same advice many people that I knew told me as well.

I think that is bad advice if you want to be successful. If you want to be successful and you want to get the opportunities to be great, you have take the steps to get there. Which brings me to the other lesson.

Take Action

If you want to be successful, you have to take ACTION. If you don't start moving, you will never make it up a hill. It doesn't matter how
big, how much power you have, how smart you are. If you don't ACT, if you don't Take the first Step!, You won't achieve!
