Kathryn Coniglio is a PhD candidate and National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow in clinical psychology at Rutgers University studying eating disorders. She has authored over 25 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters in academic textbooks and has presented her research at national and international conferences. Her program of research explores ways to improve detection of pathological exercise as well as ways to help folks in recovery from eating disorders re-engage with exercise in an adaptive, sustainable way.

She has worked as a clinician in both behavioral medicine settings and in eating disorder treatment settings and was continually struck by the vastly diverging viewpoints that each of these “camps” has about exercise. In primary healthcare settings, exercise is often prescribed with a “more is always better” attitude, whereas eating disorder clinicians are often very skeptical of exercise. Her entire program of research explores this gray area that exists in between these two extremes.
