“If I just show up and just be me… then what’s not to love?” – Antra Boyd

Antra, the Co-Owner of the Connected Care Patient Advocates, is ready to inspire everyone tuning in on this episode of the Fire In The Belly Podcast. She talks to Mighty Pete about her chaotically fun childhood, her career journey (including her service to the military), and the number of testimonials from the people she has helped through her company.

The healthcare system can be confusing for many. It can make it difficult for patients to maximise the help or treatment they’re getting if they don’t get given enough information. Antra is very passionate about this. With her knowledge and experience in the medical field, she makes sure each person gets the right support and guidance. Let’s listen in to know more about Antra’s advocacy today.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

When you have grown up with nine siblings and you’re also the eldest, then it’s not surprising that you are feisty yet dependable. Antra had a very interesting childhood. She learned how to be independent and adapt to her family situation early on.

Sometimes, life does not require you to try hard or work hard; sometimes, it just wants you to show up. Antra realised that just being present in the moment can often be the only way to help yourself and others.

Would you be okay despite…? Antra has learned how to be accepting, resilient, and hopeful no matter what life throws at her. Previously she always thought she was going nowhere because of her past traumas. This was not true at all. Be okay with not being always okay. There will be so many doors that will open for you, just you wait.

There’s so much going on during a patient’s recovery period, not only physically but mentally. You have understand them, to help them heal. It’s key that medical practitioners offer genuine support as well as their medical expertise to patients to achieve wellness.

Antra and her team ensure that each person is informed, get the best treatment, and don’t get stressed out by the technical stuff and the confusing healthcare system. As a surgical nurse, who understands the medical language, she wants to act as the intermediary and make everything comprehensible to each person.

BEST MOMENTS

“I was living my entire life through ‘fight or flight, and I was so stressed.”

“If I don’t know the answer, it should occur to me to find the answer.”

“If only people learn not to be afraid of their experience, that alone will change the world.”

“We all have this innate knowingness.”
