This week I’ve been working on listening to my body more. Really listening to the signals she sends me about whether she is hungry, tired, thirsty or even has to be. I’ve gone back and forth most of my life between a loving relationship to my body and one that treats myself more like a workhorse. It’s a major difference to say to myself, “you can go to the bathroom when we finish this task as a reward” and “You seem tired, we can lay down for a nap if you want.” Those things are so counter to each other and what feels intuitive like rest and eating when your hungry are not rewarded by our society so it feels anti-social to nurture ourselves.

I want to say that again because it’s a shocking sentence if you really digest it.

Intuitive things like eating and rest are not rewarded by our society so it feels anti-social to nurture ourselves.
