Leviticus 25:23-34/47-55
Ultimately, the year of Jubilee was the complete elimination of debts and indebtedness. People received land and property back that they had lost because of debt and all who had become slaves because of debt were freed. This is why Jubilee proclaims “liberty throughout the land”. During the Christmas season we celebrate that Jesus came into the world to save his people from their sins. Unto us is born a savior who erased our debt and slavery to sin. In him, we celebrate liberty for our souls.
