This is the time for introducing undergraduate engineering programs and courses in new technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things ( IoT), Blockchain Technology, Robotics, Automation, Quantum Computing, Data Analytics & Sciences, Cyber Security, 3D Printing & Design, Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality (AR/VR) is mandatory now. We should put greater focus on multi-disciplinary engineering courses, especially in computational biology, biotechnology, biomedical, mechatronics, space science, aerospace, agriculture, and environmental engineering. Students should be encouraged on “design thinking” and practical approaches to apply their classrooms knowledge.

In today’s extremely competitive world, a degree in engineering no longer guarantees job security. Future engineers will require additional specialisations and skills to adapt to the rapid changes and digitalisation of industries across the globe. It is suggested that, engineering students should look for opportunities to enhance their skills and gain hands-on experience in real-life applications and with industry internships for becoming more competitive, productive and innovative for the country. The plus point with today’s students is that they are technically and digitally savvy by birth, and making it easier for them to get adapted to current changes in the field of engineering & technology.
