This week on in Digital Minute, our Operations Director Steve Lee looks at Facebook's latest feature for event owners, and the battle between Periscope and Meerkat.

Facebook quietly launched a feature last week that will alert users to events taking place near them – provided it is being run by a page that they like. So if you’re a brand running a local promotional event, your page’s subscribers will get an alert if they’re nearby. It should make life a lot easier for event planners and we've got more detail on the change over on our blog.

We have also looked at the battle of the live streaming apps, and it seems like Periscope has well and truly stolen Meerkat's thunder.

Meerkat might have been the talk of SXSW, but its ranking in the iOS chart fell below the top thousand following the launch of Periscope.
