204 episodes - English - Latest episode: 3 months ago - ★★★★★ - 1 rating

Welcome to the Catflap Chats podcast. My name is Mikey, but lots call me Catflap, Flap, or Flapper, and I'm fortunate enough to call some pretty interesting people my mates - Professional sports, Rugby, Boxing, MMA, Football, Actors, Singers, and Business, in Wales and beyond.

I'm going to have a beer with a different mate each week, and delve in to their professional and personal lives. Expect some distinctly average chat, funny stories, and insights in behind the scenes.

Basically, I am absolutely winging this!

Ep99 - Dan Chapman - World Champion BKB Bare Knuckle Boxer, missing out on London 2021, and giving back to the community

October 25, 2021 10:52 - 1 hour - 90.9 MB

What a gent Dan is. When you think of the world of Bare Knuckle Boxing, you might think the film Snatch, or some underground shady types. Dan couldn't be more different. A horrific upbringing brought a desire to do better, be better, and help others. It just so happens he's hard as nails, as slick in the ring as they come, and is making the most of his talents and background, as the pro boxing game, and London 2012, was taken away from him.  Thanks always Dragon Signs, Nathaniel Cars, Tiny...

Ep98 - Scott Young - Cardiff City FC Legend #CCFC #Bluebirds

October 18, 2021 10:53 - 1 hour - 87.3 MB

Loved this with Scott Young - Cardiff debut as a teenager, and having to retire at 28. THAT goal against Leeds. An attempted come back at Newport County. Managing throughout the divisions in Wales, and that brief stint at Cardiff City with Gabbidon, before becoming the Assistant Manager. There's not much Scott hasn't seen or done in Welsh football, and it was great to have a laugh with him on the Pod!  Thanks always Tiny Rebel Brewery, Dragon Signs, Nathaniel Car Sales, and Heatforce UK

Managing throughout the divisions in Wales, and that brief stint at Cardiff City with Gabbidon, before becoming the Assistant Manager. Ep97 - Paul Stromberg - Convicted, Ex International Drug Smuggler

October 11, 2021 08:45 - 1 hour - 163 MB

What a chat. I have never had a conversation like this. Drug Smuggling, both Hash and Cocaine. Over 14.5 years in Prison. Venezuela. Columbia. Portugal. The UK. The Cali Cartel (In Columbia). Getting caught. Being a transporter.  It is honestly mind blowing, and that is only the stuff he's allowed to talk about.  Thanks always Tiny Rebel Brewery, Nathaniel Cars, Dragon Signs and Heatforce UK

Ep96 - Zack George - UK's Fittest Man, Professional Crossfit Athlete, and Author

October 04, 2021 11:53 - 1 hour - 97.6 MB

Loved the honesty from Zack. He may be a professional athlete now (and look like he was carved out of Handsome Granite), but has spent years growing up having a bad relationship with food, which is actually really relatable. He's risen to the top of the Crossfit community through grit, resilience and a determination based on his WHY, and after a disrupted 2020/21, I can't wait to see where he goes next!  Thanks always Heatforce, Tiny Rebel, Nathaniel Cars and Dragon Signs.

Ep95 - Luke Rowe - Ineos Grenadiers (Formerly Team Sky), Cycling, & the Tour De France

September 27, 2021 10:11 - 1 hour - 104 MB

One of my favourite episodes. The ones where you're an hour in without realising, and could chat for way longer. Luke is superb, giving honest insight in to Team Sky, Ineos Grenadiers, life in the TDF and other Grand Tours. The brutal realities of professional cycling and more - All a few days before the UCI Worlds in Flanders, for Team GB. www.roweandking.com www.catflapchats.co.uk Thanks always Heatforce, Dragon Signs, Nathaniel Cars, & Tiny Rebel Brewery!

Ep94 - Dad the Dish - Cooking up a storm on Instagram/Tiktok, being homeless, and helping others

September 21, 2021 10:54 - 2 hours - 186 MB

This episode had every emotion going. Dad the Dish has spent the last year showing everyone how to cook amazing meals at home, with step by step guides on Instagram and Tiktok. It has gone that well, he's grown to 124k followers on Insta, 74k on Tiktok, and has helped loads of people in the community by giving back.  That's incredible, for a guy who was once homeless as an adult and had nothing, and even now, continues to receive abuse on socials... Thanks always Dragon Signs, Heatforce,...

Ep93 - Rob Jones - British Lions, Wales Rugby, Swansea, Cardiff, Bristol and Western Province

September 06, 2021 16:36 - 1 hour - 84.8 MB

Good to catch up with Rob, reflecting on a quality career. 2 Lions Series, 3 RWC's, and played with and against the best players in the world. One of only 5 Welsh scrum halves to reach the 50 cap mark, and even got a Lions Test start, before his first Lions tour...A Club career spanning 3 countries, with some great highs and lows too.  A thanks always Heatforce, Dragon Signs, Nathaniel Car Sales, and Tiny Rebel Brewery!

Ep92 - Alaw Haf Pritchard - Only Fans, Law Degrees, and Internet Weirdo's

August 30, 2021 13:56 - 1 hour - 89.1 MB

Only Fans is something I get asked about a lot, so it was great to have Alaw on to discuss all things OF, especially as it has been in the news the past few weeks.  She talks about some of the myths around it, what life is like as a content creator, dating whilst on OF, and the -ve's that come with the +ve's too. People and the internet are weird, that's for sure!  www.catflapchats.com Thanks always Nathaniel Car Sales, Heatforce, Dragon Signs and Tiny Rebel Brewery

Ep91 - Nicky Robinson - Wales, Cardiff Rugby, Gloucester, Wasps, Bristol, Oyonnax (And even talk of the Lions)

August 23, 2021 11:27 - 1 hour - 117 MB

Loved this one. Having met Nicky recently, he's a good bloke, and I can see why he was so popular with his former teams. An amazing club career, which never quite rewarded him with what I feel he deserved at international level, but no regrets all the same.  Great attitude, took himself out of his comfort zone, and reaped the rewards away from the Welsh spotlight. Successful post career too, which is testament to his intelligence and character.  Thanks always Heatforce UK, Dragon Signs, ...

Ep90 - Natalie Powell - Tokyo 2020 & Team GB in Judo

August 16, 2021 08:24 - 52 minutes - 72 MB

I loved this chat, and so grateful to Natalie for coming on, so close after Tokyo 2020. Raw and emotional at times, coming to terms with a personally frustrating games, knowing she didn't achieve what she set out for. Some of the lessons she talks about in terms of being a girl and body weight etc are so important for athletes growing up. Personally, her career to date has been amazing, and I can't wait to see her back at the Commonwealth Games 2022, and who knows, maybe even the Paris Oly...

Ep89 - Thomas Matthews - Tokyo2020 Paralympics Table Tennis, and overcoming adversity

August 09, 2021 15:51 - 55 minutes - 75.7 MB

I loved this episode. To overcome a bike accident that puts you in a wheelchair, and then head to Tokyo as an Olympian, is incredible.  Honest and raw about the lows of life, and the highs of competing. I can't wait to see how Thomas and Team GB gets on!  www.catflapchats.com Thanks always Dragon Signs, Heatforce, Nathaniel Cars, LT Scaffold and Tiny Rebel Brewery

Ep88 - #HerGameToo - A new campaign to fight the misogyny and discrimination against Women in Football

August 02, 2021 10:00 - 1 hour - 108 MB

I noticed #HerGameToo trending on Twitter, and saw their video too. It made me think (coupled with what happened at the Euros final), what is it like for Women fans in Football Thought provoking, both inspiring and shocking in equal measures, I love the work Caz and the girls are doing, and the growing support from professionals in the game.  I have an 8 year old daughter who loves footy, and if she was subjected to this, I would go mad.  Thanks to our Partners; Dragon Signs, Heatforce...

Breaking your ankle on debut, and winning. Selling dirty socks. Trusting no-one. Creating your own luck. UK fight fans. Resilience. Ep84 - Mason Jones - Wales' next UFC and MMA Star, and 2 weight Cage Warriors Champ!

July 05, 2021 09:00 - 54 minutes - 75.3 MB

Unreal chat with Mason. It's been a mixed start to his UFC career, but I loved how brutally honest he is about it all, and I have no doubt he will be a UFC world champion in time, after being a 2 weight Cage Warriors Champion. It is amazing a man who pays the bills with controlled violence, can talk to articulately and with such clarity.  Check out www.catflapchats.com for our new merch coming, and thanks to our partners LT Scaffold Services and Tiny Rebel Brewery

June 28, 2021 09:56 - 51 minutes - 70.9 MB

Good to catch up with George after a successful first season out in Japan. Fascinating to hear his journey and thought process on leaving Saracens for Japan, and his desire to travel the world to gather experiences.  He's sacrificed a lot to do that - comfort zones, relationships, England and maybe even Lions caps, but its great to see he's content with his decision, and happy how well it's gone.  Catch us on all major Podcast platforms and catflapchats.com Thanks always LT Scaffold, J...

Interesting convos about Mens and Womens prizes funds, sponsorships and coverage, and some tips on being a better player, both mentally and physically.  Thanks always Who Knows Wins, LT Scaff...

Ep58 - Ryan Jones - Ospreys, Wales, Lions. Charity, winning, and finding himself,

January 04, 2021 15:01 - 1 hour - 95 MB

Recorded this just before Christmas, and it was not what I was expecting. Ryan opens up about wearing many masks, from the Macho Rugby one, to one now driven by a want to be the best role model possible, to those he cares about.  This got deep, but in a relatable way, so much of what Ryan said resonated with my own life, and the many suits of armour I wear too. He's so much more than the Grand Slam and title winning captain, the warrior on the pitch, and the chubby kid from Newport! Than...

Ep57 - Jack 'Tank' Shore - Undefeated UFC fighter and former Cage Warriors Champion

December 28, 2020 16:00 - 1 hour - 86.6 MB

Recorded just before Christmas, it's not every day you have a catch up with one of the hottest prospects in the UFC! I love Tank's work ethic, his confidence, his outlook on the negative things in life, and his desire to fight the best to be the best.  He's been thrown in at the deep end, but seems to have some great people around him, and we can't wait to see what Tank brings to 2021, and hopefully a shot at the UFC title in 22/23. Thanks always Tiny Rebel, Who Knows Wins, and LT Scaffo...

December 21, 2020 19:06 - 1 hour - 113 MB

Lovely to catch up with Elma, fresh off the RWC2023 World Cup Draw and the World Series 10's in Bermuda.  Growing up as a white, Afrikaans female, in a predominantly male dominated industry was interesting to listen to, and it goes to show that if you're a brilliant broadcaster and content creator, then you can achieve so much in the industry.  We touch on SA Rugby, the Lions, Social Media, Trolls, and so much more!  Thanks as always Who Knows Wins, LT Scaffold Services, and Tiny Rebel...

Ep55 - Ollie Phillips - Eng7s Captain, 4x World Record Holder, Business Owner, and all round good bloke!

December 14, 2020 18:40 - 1 hour - 123 MB

Loved this chat, recorded over 2 sessions. Only known Ollie a short while, but his mindset and outlook is infectious. He's taken a lot of what he knew into a successful business career, but also had the character to know that a lot of what he thought made him a good captain/player, didn't always work in the real world either.  His career both on and off the pitch has been brilliant, and his charity work continues to be record breaking - There's lessons in this that we can all use in variou...

Ep54 - Gary Lockett - Professional Boxing and MMA Coach, and former World Title Challenger

When you think boxing, you may think of AJ, Matchroom, Eddie Hearn etc.  What you don;t think of is the other side of boxing - Ticket Sales at Hall Shows. Boxers giving their all to earn a pittance as they build a rep. Trolls who will happily call boxers shit or quitters, having never boxed or stepped in to a ring.  Such a refreshing chat with Gary about the state of boxing away from the bright lights, and hopefully there will be a part 2 too! Thanks always @WhoKnowsWins, LT Scaffold, ...

This was like therapy for me, the most honest I've ever spoken to someone on the pod.  We chat healthy food, lifestyles, mindsets, tough upbringings, quitting porn, simple life hacks, gut health, body health, mind health, relationships, social media, lifestyle transformations, getting out in to nature, being addicted to our phones, the importance of water and plenty more.    Huge thanks to David W Harris & Co Solicitors, Tiny Rebel Brewery, LT Scaffold and WHo Knows Wins

Ep52 - Josh Turnbull - Cardiff Blues, Scarlets and Wales Rugby

November 23, 2020 16:30 - 1 hour - 101 MB

Great chat with JT - He's a funny bloke and easy to see why he's a popular squad member whether that's at the Blues, the Scarlets before, or with Wales.  Absolutely loves the gritty side of the game, and has a brilliant attitude to training, life, and coaching. He also loves the social side of the game - playing because he loves it, and playing harder after working hard... Thanks as always to Who Knows Wins, Tiny Rebel Brewery, David W Harris Solicitors and LT Scaffold Services.
