A New Covid-19 Crisis: Domestic Abuse Rises Worldwide

Movement restrictions aimed to stop the spread of the coronavirus may be making violence in homes more frequent, more severe and more dangerous.

With families in lockdown, there’s been an increase in domestic violence cases (according to the April 2020 New York Times article). We mostly hear about the stories of women and children. It’s rare that we hear about men who are also domestic violence survivors.

Our guest today is one of them. He continues to share his story with others as a unique way to take back his life and to “keep moving forward.” He’s spoken at universities; coffee shops; parks; schools and special events. Additionally, he’s testified in front of a Senate Judiciary Committee, bringing awareness to Domestic Violence and the impact the experience has on people. Our guest has a continuing campaign called the Blake Late Show - meeting people and having them share their thoughts on a poster board to get him featured on The Late Show (at the time of the campaign’s beginning, Stephen Colbert was the host - November 2015 - 2016). To our listeners, I would advise that if you have young children with you, now would be the time to pause and move to a space where you’re able to listen to this podcast.
