THE GOOD
Martian design is instantly iconic. Ensemble cast plays their larger-than-life roles with intention. It takes very talented actors to take comedy seriously, thereby creating memorable characters and scenes! Burton relishes in that comedy. Martians are mischievous, wicked and love to have a good time.
THE BAD
Burton's claimed the bad CGI was purposeful to evoke the cheesiness of '50s FX… Maybe a poor decision in hindsight. Story is disjointed (example: separate groups of people eventually come together in INDEPENDENCE DAY. Here, those storylines never converge). Left me wanting more.
THE DOWNRIGHT CAMPY
Tom Jones playing Tom Jones, singing us out of the movie. So good.

Classic. I was on the fence considering the bad CGI and shallow story but there's enough cast chemistry, inventive designs, memorable set pieces and infectious humor to overcome the flaws. Ack! Ack! Ack!
