Show Notes

The most successful organizations throughout history are those that tap into the unique ability of people to be creative. It's a natural human desire to create, contribute and interact with things that are bigger than ourselves. Yet most HR systems don't deliver that, they prioritize compliance ahead of engagement control, ahead of leadership and tasks ahead of outcomes

I'm delighted to be talking with Andrew Seinor, co-founder of The H Factor, a very different kind of human resources system.

We talk about:

·         performance appraisals, dating back to the 60s and 70s

·         the performance appraisal process that was so demotivating that performance declined

·         why HR gets a bad rap

·         why people leave managers

·         why excessive focus on being a good person is not a good management strategy

·         how to lead people who come to work each day with the best intention

·         why employing a manager to “fix” the business is not a good strategy

·         drawing on skills and talents that are beneficial for the person and the business

·         creating space for curiosity – the culture of trying new things

·         the problem with HR performance rating systems

·         the courage to say “I don’t think this is the right task and here’s why"

·         what are your people actually doing?

·         letting go as a leader

·         the system that goes on forever

·         “Oh, you’re kidding! Why didn’t we know that?”
