Properties of Subatomic Particles

September 03, 2013 02:10

The basic conception of a subject now known as Subatomic Particle physics dates back to 500 BC when the Greek philosopher Leucippus and his pupil Democritus suggested that matter consists of small, indivisible particles, which they called atoms. For more than 2000 years after this, the notion of atoms lay in obscurity. For quite a long time, people believed that all matter consisted of four elements: earth, fire, air, and water. We now know that atoms do exist, and that some particles smaller...

Atomic Theory

September 03, 2013 02:08

We now know that atoms are not indivisible , since they contain protons, neutrons, electrons and other subatomic particles. However, other than this mistake Dalton's ideas are essentially correct in his Atomic Theory.

States of Matter

September 03, 2013 02:06

Matter is anything that has mass and takes up space. Matter has different states and their discovery and characterization employed the scientific method.

Significant Figures

September 03, 2013 02:04

Significant Figures or Digits are the amount of digits that are accurate in a calculation. This is determined by how many digits there are in the numbers of the calculation.

Marion Carroll | Homework Paradise

December 29, 2011 17:38

Marion Carroll | Homework Paradise Since leaving the classroom I have been longing to help students academically with their questions and concerns in basic chemistry. biology and biochemistry. Homework Paradise might be a way to do that. Give this a try. This portal is new to me so I will see how this goes and if it is useful in providing you with the help you seek. If so, I will begin promoting myself and you can help by submitting your own review. Thanks. Good luck! Dr. Carroll

Summer time...and the livin' is easy...

July 04, 2010 18:27

That's right. All done for another summer of kicking back, relaxin', readin', writing and some overall reflectin'. Things are looking up since the last time summer came around. Hope you enjoy yours in spite the challenges. God will bless in due time.

Introduction to Biochemistry

June 26, 2010 02:30

I welcome your comments here after or before your class. Suggestions for topics and clarification may be and are encouraged to be posted here. You can be anonymous or you may identify yourself. I especially would like to see comment strings, that is, what you think about what someone else has said. Come here often to review material covered in lecture.

Chapter 1 part 1

June 24, 2010 02:20

Much of chapter 1 is a review of material you should have seen before with respect to thermodynamics and Gibbs Free Energy.

Chapter 1 part 2

June 21, 2010 02:10

Chapter 1 contains a discussion of thermodynamics. Your comments are always welcomed. Enthalpy, entropy and free energy changes lie underneath all biochemical reactions driving them to completion and initiating the next reaction. Carefully read your chapter and search for other sources to reinforce these concepts.

Thermodynamics....huh?

June 18, 2010 12:42 - 66.2 MB Video

So here's a little description of what I believe explains the difference between &Delta G and &Delta G0. Gibb's Free Energy

pH and Amino Acid Titration

June 15, 2010 11:20 - 93.1 MB Video

Here is a quick review of pH, pK and pI that will be important when we begin Chapter 4: amino acids.Amino Acid Titration. For Window Media Players

Chapter 4: Amino Acids

June 13, 2010 06:00 - 115 MB Video

Here is a summary of some important details concerning amino acid structure and properties. You should also be able to download theses videos for free from the iTunes music store if you have an account. You will find it in the Podcast section under "Biochemistry Class Notebook". Stevie...what more can I say.

Chapter 7

June 10, 2010 13:09

After discussing amino acids, protein primary, secondary and tertiary structure, we will discuss protein structure and function using hemoglobin: the classical allosteric protein.

The Bohr Effect

June 09, 2010 12:11 - 92 MB Video

Here's a brief overview of the most challenging topic in chapter 7, The Bohr Effect.

Michaelis-Menton Kinetics after Exam II

June 05, 2010 13:44 - 89.7 MB Video

Here is the first of 2 installments on our Enzyme Kinetics lectures. Use this for a quick review of the terms KM, VMAX, Kcat, KS and enzyme efficiency. More description of the Linweaver-Burke and inhibition will follow in the 2nd installment.

Enzyme Inhibition
