Do you know the terror of suffering a panic attack?  Do you experience ruminating thoughts of worry that you cannot control?  While we all experience anxiety, when feelings of intense fear and distress become overwhelming and prevent us from doing everyday activities, an anxiety disorder may be the cause.

The Amerikan Therapy team dives into what it is like to live with an anxiety disorder and debunks the misnomers surrounding this very common mental health challenge.  The show's resident Psychiatrist, Dr. Tanya Royster MD, breaks down the facts and shares insights on when to know if you might need to seek professional help.  Amerikan Therapy continues to evolve the conversation surrounding all things black mental health, and this is definitely a can't miss episode.

Anxiety disorders are the most common mental illness in the U.S., affecting 40 million adults in the United States age 18 and older, or 18.1% of the population every year.  Anxiety disorders are highly treatable, yet only 36.9% of those suffering receive treatment.  These disorders develop from a complex set of risk factors, including genetics, brain chemistry, personality, and life events.  Anxiety disorders also often co-occur with other disorders such as depression, eating disorders, and attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
