Larry says that defunding the police would be a mistake as a result of the Black Lives Matter #BLM protests. He says the people who live in gated communities already have safety and security but the lower socioeconomic areas will suffer and chaos will ensue.
He says that now there is “total lawlessness” and there is a concern for the security of our nation.
With school liaisons being defunding, for example, Larry says it is a disservice as the relationship with police officers are imperative for change to occur, and schools are where this can positively occur.
He says defunding the police puts preventive measures into place, and we need to learn from the past like with Columbine and Sandy Hook. A discussion about arming the police in schools is helpful when you have trained professionals in the school who are sharp and fit to be able to deal with any threatening situation.
Larry says that training police is key such as how to make an effective arrest and treating people with respect, although some people simply hate the police and will not negotiate.
In places like in Seattle right now, for example, there is a risk of defunding the police as more people may be killed or sexually assaulted with more violence approaching so having a police force is necessary. With protestors over the deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, etc. there is increasing unrest that needs to be settled without further violence.
