A VO's Journey: Voiceover and more voice over

327 episodes - English - Latest episode: 19 days ago - ★★★★★ - 52 ratings

A VO's Journey is about helping new voiceover artists grow their business by listening to my journey to becoming a full-time voice actor. I have been an actor, coach, director, and teacher for over 20 years. I started six years ago in the voice-over industry and wanted to create a way to document my journey so other voice over actors could benefit from it. Voiceover is now my life, and I love every moment of it.

Ep. 132: What Microphone Should I Use As A Beginner

December 12, 2019 19:00 - 18 minutes - 12.5 MB

What Microphone Should I Use As A Beginner Check out my new Fiverr Elite Group here. I would love to help you grow your Fiverr business. Many people view microphones as a "Who Has The Bigger One" type deal. If my microphone is more expensive, that means I am a better voice actor. The reality is, none of that is true. First and foremost, your talent and skill have nothing to do with your microphone. That is why some people seem to get lots of work on standard equipment, and others can't ...

December 11, 2019 19:00 - 38 minutes - 26.8 MB

How To Manage Your Family Job And Voice Over Business There can be no denying that managing your family, job, and voice-over business is a challenging feat. I remember when I first started in voice-over. I worked from 6 am to 6 pm and had to pick up the kids in the evenings from after school care. Then I would get home in time to meet my wife pulling in the driveway from her job. After making dinner with her and hanging out with the kids for a bit, we would do their baths and put them bed...

Ep. 130: How To Perform The Conversational Read

December 09, 2019 19:00 - 35 minutes - 24.5 MB

How To Perform The Conversational Read This tone of voice is by far the most sought after type of voice over out there these days. Voice actors that can successfully perform these types of voice-overs are hired over and over again.  Most people struggle with this voice when they are put in front of a microphone. Even though no one is in front of them, they feel they have to "Perform" and be over-the-top. This type of voice acting is unnecessary, and in this episode, I give you some real t...

Ep. 127: Why You Should Be Branding Your Voice Over Business Right Now

November 25, 2019 20:00 - 19 minutes - 13.4 MB

Why You Should Be Branding Your Voice Over Business Right Now The simple truth about branding is that if you are not getting your business out in the world of social media, you are not being seen. Not just that, but you are not building trust or value. If you stop and think of brands like Nike, Coach, McDonald's, etc., these brands mean something to us, and they have built trust. All they have to do is show us a symbol, and we are ready to sign up or buy, no questions asked. That is b...

Ep. 118: Are You Gaining Or Losing Voice Over Business Because Of Your Production Value

October 25, 2019 20:00 - 18 minutes - 12.9 MB

Are You Gaining Or Losing Voice Over Business Because Of Your Production Value I have listened to so many samples and demos from all sorts of voice actors and I can tell you that the biggest thing that separates them, is the production value of their performance. It is not the acting, although that is extremely important, it is how professional and "impressive" their work sounds. Music, sound fx, and mixing all play a part in this show. We must take this production seriously and it coul...

And, we must have a plan when we get there. This episode, I talk about a 6-step process I use to generate leads an...

October 08, 2019 19:00 - 28 minutes - 19.5 MB

Are You On The Right Track In Your Voice Over Business The first question you need to ask: Where is your track headed? I know we have all heard the analogy before, but we continue to listen to it because of the truth in it - If you want to go on vacation, you must have a destination first. That's the secret formula! I gave it away. It isn't pretty or exciti...

September 13, 2019 06:00 - 21 minutes - 14.5 MB

L-U-C-K (Labouring Under Correct Knowledge) I love this way of describing what luck means to me. If we work day in and day out under the correct knowledge, it will lead us to what works. However, if we labor day in and day out under false knowledge, it won't matter how much work we put in, we will still get a pile of nothing. September 11, 2019 05:00 - 21 minutes - 14.6 MB

Why You Are Not Getting Work Over the last week, I have thought why so many voice-over artists are struggling to get work on their own, i.e., not from a platform. Ep. 105: You Are What You Think

September 06, 2019 20:00 - 16 minutes - 11.6 MB

You Are What You Think This is a topic that has always fascinated me ... the power our minds have to create what it is that we wish for. I have learned what I give, I receive. If I give a smile, I will get a smile. If I throw a punch, I will get a punch. It is inevitable. In the same line of thinking, your thoughts are things as well, and if you are constantly thinking negative thoughts, you are sending them into the universe and guess what ... you will get back what you give. This ep...
