For our first episode, we look at how 1N5 grew out of a family and community's desire to honor the memory of Jim Miller. 1N5’s Founder and Executive Director, Nancy Eigel-Miller, lost her husband Jim to suicide in 2008. Losing Jim came as a shock to his family and community. No one knew Jim was silently suffering with suicidal thoughts as he was the one always engaging with others and making them feel comfortable.

What started out as the Jim Miller Memorial Mile has blossomed into 1N5.org. 1N5 is a Cincinnati non-profit organization with a mission to promote optimal mental health for Cincinnati youth through stigma reduction and evidence-based mental health education.

Before we look at how 1N5 emerged from the Jim Miller Memorial Mile, we first talk with Steve Martin, Jim’s friend since his teenage years, and Nancy to get a stronger understanding of Jim’s personality and what they now know were early warning signs.

We then talk with Tricia Buchert, Director of Student Services at Mariemont High School, about how the partnership with 1N5 has helped their district on a strategic and individual level.
