On today's episode of Yours Mentally we talk about the stages of grief and how grieving can affect one's mental health. This episode is in conversation with Ruhi Satija who is a consultant psychiatrist and counselling therapist.

TW: Mention of death and suicide

We begin the episode by asking Ruhi that when we know someone who is grieving, we often tell them that the deceived person is probably in a “better place” now. Do you think we are inculcating toxic positivity by saying this?
We then ask Ruhi to explain what are the stages of grieving and how much do the stages vary from person to person?
We also ask how long is too long to mourn? How long does each stage of grief last?
We ask Ruhi that when someone dies, we often like to keep their belongings so we feel like we have a part of them with us. People also visit their loved one’s graves. Till what point do you think these practices are healthy?
We also ask her how does one know whether or not they need to seek professional help after I have lost a loved one?
We then talk about what are a few things we should say and do for someone who is grieving?
We ask her in what ways can we help ourselves while we are grieving?
Lastly, we ask Ruhi how we can help someone we know who is grieving?
