On today's episode of Yours Mentally we talk about how gender role stereotypes affects our mental health. This episode is in conversation with Lenni George who is a Counselling Psychologist.
We begin the episode by asking Lenni what are gender roles and gender stereotypes and how do gender role stereotypes affect our mental health?
We then go on to ask her how do common mental health illnesses like GAD and depression manifest differently between men and women and are the symptoms any different?
We also talk about how our concepts of “masculinity” and “femininity” have negative effects on our mental health.
We then go on to discuss about toxic diet culture and how that can also have an effect on one's mental health.
We then also ask Lenni if mental health illnesses differ between men and women and does treatment for various mental health illnesses differ between men and women?
We also ask if there are there any differences in therapy sessions for men and women of the same age and suffering from the same problem? (while asking this question Aman became a mumble rapper, could not understand a single thing he said, a man of many talents!)
We end the episode by giving our views on gender role stereotypes in India and how we think things can and will change.
