Carla Ulbrich is an award-winning comical singer-songwriter and guitarist who in 2002, while on tour, fell very ill with kidney failure and a stroke. As part of her recovery, she wrote a bunch of humorous medical songs lampooning her frustrating experience with the US health care system, resulting in the CD "Sick Humor”, one of 6 CDs she has released.

Her songs, keynotes, and book entitled "How Can You NOT Laugh at a Time Like This?" which was awarded the Lupus Foundation of America's Seal of Approval, are all based on her humorous take of the life of a patient with several chronic and sometimes catastrophic illnesses. She now performs and speaks at conventions and other gatherings of patients, caregivers, nurses, and other medical professionals.

She has been featured on AOL News, Sirius XM radio, Dr. Demento and ABC and describes how she learned the value of work/ life balance, joy, and self-care the hard way- by having none of those, and getting incredibly sick. And then finding them again in the journey to reclaiming her health.
