My Father Murdered My Mother

Arman Abrahimzadeh is co-founder of the Zahra Foundation and has helped to change the lives of many women and children escaping domestic violence.

He and his sisters set up the foundation after decades spent living in an abusive home under their father's violent tyrannical rule, which tragically ended with the brutal public murder of their mother Zahra in 2010.

Now a married man himself, Arman has made a point of becoming everything his father was not. He's been a changemaker in shaping public policy to strengthen domestic violence legislation and uses his voice to empower other victims and inspire a shift in the way many men still treat women. This is crucial work here in Australia where domestic violence is an undeniable scourge on our culture. On average one woman is killed every week by her current or ex partner and one in three women will experience some form of abuse.

Arman has been nationally recognised with an Order of Australia medal for taking such an influential stand against domestic violence and making prevention part of his life's work. He's a wonderful speaker with a story that should be heard by all men and women and it was a pleasure to sit down with him for this podcast.
