We can subconsciously hold attachments to this state, sort of like a romantic relationship with unhappiness. This can prevent us from taking measures we know would make us happier, but require that we give up our self-loathing, self-pitying inclination.

By asking ourselves questions, we can bring these subconscious beliefs to awareness. We can break free from the patterns that have been ingrained in us since our youth. We can find more and more happiness with each day!
