• Principal Private Secretary to Prime Ministers Edward Heath and Harold Wilson from 1970 – 1975;
• Permanent Secretary of the Home Office, 1977-79
• Cabinet Secretary under Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, 1979-1987.
And he has been a member of the House of Lords since 1988, a year or so after his retirement.
Michael speaks to Lord Armstrong about Brexit and the modern state of politics.
