The Darkness

Lori grew up in a very religious and restrictive family, exposed to a limited view of the world throughout much of her childhood. However, having that experience – and challenging it – has had a big impact on who Lori is today.

Whether it’s your religious beliefs or the belief that you are unhealthy due to “bad genetics,” it’s hard to believe anything different if you are only ever exposed to one view.

As a result of her environment, Lori was in fear all the time. When she met people with a different (and, at times, more loving) perspective of the world, she could not wrap her brain around some of the conflicting ideas… at first.

Being exposed to wildly different ideas and working through that inner conflict, ultimately, gave Lori “massive perspective.” She dug deep into herself and asked an important question: What feels right for me?

Unfortunately, that wasn’t the darkest time in Lori’s life.

After graduating, Lori bounced from a straight edge religious background to a party lifestyle. She met a lot of interesting people and it helped broaden her horizons, but she also picked up a number of unhealthy habits.

Then, one night in Cancun, she was separated from her best friend in a club. In her efforts to find her friend, Lori ended up in a cab outside of town. The man who brought her there intended to rob her and leave her there, and she struggled to fend him off for hours.

Then, she had a moment – “a crazy, clarifying moment” – and she knew what to say. She humanized herself, and she told the man that God knew what he was doing and would forgive him if he brought her back.

She drove back to town with a knife pressing against her neck, but she got back – and over the next few years, she started to transform her life.

A Tribe Called Bliss

Today, all of the dreams that Lori manifested are coming true. It was a long, hard journey, but she’s starting to see the rewards.

Lori believes it’s important to share this journey with others, bumps and all, because then they can see how much intention and time goes into creating happiness and living your purpose.

It’s not always easy, and it takes daily planning, but anyone can do it!

If you want to dive deeper into Lori’s story and get a big dose of inspiration, you can pre-order A Tribe Called Bliss (releasing May 8, 2018). And in the meantime, you can check out the Earn Your Happy podcast today!
