Happy Mother's day from Word To Your Mothers! This year certainly is strange setting for the annual day of acknowledgement-it's hard to know how to celebrate or even if we should celebrate. Also, it's frankly not always a "happy" day for some moms. Mother's Day can come with many emotions and feelings-amplifying pain of losses that are real and still raw.

In this time when our "normal" routines have been altered, host Sondra Doty has heard many conversations around the specific loads mothers are bearing and also how many are raising the bar on what it means to be a "Supermom!" Well, for some just hearing the word "super" brings up fear, failure and anxiety-after all, there seems to be even more to compete with now. Heck yeah, there are perhaps more superhero-style moments for moms/parents everywhere; but there are also more feelings (and ways) of failing our children or potential for messing up the day, right?

So much more seems out of our control, but we must not dwell in a place of failure or mess. We must face our fears. Sondra talks about this candidly; she never asked for or wanted the title of Supermom. Her goal is not to be super but to be loving, kind and caring. To guide, direct and help her little humans be confident humans themselves.

She loves this quite from Dr. Marshall Klause: "Be very kind to the mother." It can be so easy and tempting to deem ourselves as failures because of how we measure ourselves or against whom we measure. The first thing to do, however is be KIND to yourself. No matter where you are in your mothering or desire to be a mother, find confidence in where you are. Sit and honor the place you are in your journey.

You deserve to celebrate and be celebrated this Mother's Day. No supermom credentials required.
