Joining Traci on this week’s show is Claire Winter, a content creator, journalist and copywriter who’s devoted to helping businesses to create compelling content designed to convert via online courses and one-to-one training, using the wealth of knowledge and experience she’s accumulated through a distinguished career in print and media.

Listen as Traci and Claire discuss the challenges and blessings of running a business as a parent, the importance of effective marketing and the best way to connect with, and learn from your customers.

KEY TAKEAWAYS
Having children, for women, can be as much of a professional blessing as it is a challenge. Claire chose to design the shape of her own career while bringing up her young children, one where she made her vocation fit around her family, and not the other way around.
Marketing is not just about talking about yourself, but talking about your customer in language they recognise. It’s not just about content, but content with purpose. And remember to give clear directions on how they can interact with you. Maybe they’re not ready to buy from you just yet, but draw them into your world, and draw yourself into theirs.
One of the great pleasures of modern media is that more and more people are broadcasters, whether that’s in print or in podcasts etc. This has meant that we’re now seeing a much more diverse and interesting new generation of content creators, who get to control their public perception, instead of adhering to someone else’s ideal.
If you’re creating written content, Claire believes you should be as professional as possible, not just in your content, but also in your behind-the-scenes development. By tracking the success of your content as you publish, you can see what’s resonating with people, and better define what future content is going to land well with your audience.
Some may struggle with “impostor syndrome”, to which Claire advises setting down a list of your strengths and plus points with the help of a colleague or friend. When you compare this list against the needs of your customer base, you can instantly see the “genius zone”, the place where their needs and your gifts align. And once you can see your own value, your confidence will grow.
You can save huge amounts of time, and make the most of your content, by repurposing it into different forms. Blog posts can be turned into social posts, or turned into podcasts or videos. This allows your content to be enjoyed and shared through a variety of different channels, and of course, to reach a wider audience than you may have originally planned.
It’s really useful to jump on a news story, or plan your content around events or the calendar, but always make sure the story or event is linked to your business. It’s a real opportunity to be creative, but it has to be relevant to what you’re selling or who you are.
It’s always good thing to share your journey with the world as it helps your audience or customers to feel as though they’re a part of it. People love stories. It’s so important to recognise our own stories and involve others.

ABOUT THE HOST

Traci Cornelius is a Speaker, Business Coach, Mindset Coach and mum to five Girls. Like many, Traci’s story is not really a succinct one. It is long with many twists and turns (which is like business and life itself!).

"Many of the twists and turns have helped me to learn, to grow and to become a successful entrepreneur."

On a professional level, she runs many businesses. On a personal level, she is a Mum to five wonderful, adorable, courageous, independent and challenging girls.

“I discovered exactly where I had gone wrong in my previous businesses. Everything I had been through, the good the bad and the ugly started to come together into the best discovery of all the “5 Power Principles”

I implemented them, first in my business and then in others and so they then became the “5 Power Principles” that other people wanted to know about!”

–Traci Cornelius
