Episode 70 with Dr. Emily Anhalt.

"The message we’re given is that we shouldn’t get support until we’re falling apart. That’s like waiting until you have heart disease to start doing cardio."

Dr. Anhalt is a psychoanalytic psychologist, emotional fitness consultant, and the co-founder of Coa, an online gym for mental health.

Emily was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 7, and her doctoral dissertation (inspired by her own life) was on ADHD and success beyond medication.

We talk all about how an early diagnosis shaped her life and academic pursuits, how her ADHD contributed to her success, and her ongoing efforts to reframe how we treat and talk about mental health.

Emily describes her research into the 7 traits of emotional fitness, and how Coa differs from traditional coaching or group therapy. We also talk about the broader spectrum of neurodiversity and why ADHD diagnoses have been on the rise in recent years.
