Dr. Juliet McGrattan talks us through some questions and concerns you may have when you’re a new mother and want to go swimming. So much of the advice is about when it’s safe for your baby to swim and not about you! When is it ok for you to hit the pool? What if you had a vaginal tear, stitches or a Caesarean section? Juliet discusses the new Return to Running Guidelines published in the UK in March 2019 that don’t suggest swimming until 8 to 12 weeks. Highlighting the importance of gradually building up pelvic floor and core muscle strength before returning to any exercise, you’ll feel informed and able to choose when the right time is for YOU to get back in the pool. Swimming can help relax your mind, give you headspace and quiet time which is a precious gift for tired, busy, new mums so listen in for some sound advice.
