As a native of Santa Cruz County in California, Ashoka McCormick grew up loving the outdoors and being active. When he was 12 years old his parents signed him up for Judo lessons and ever since he has been hooked on martial arts. In an effort to become a stronger martial artist, he took up strength training and notice immediate improvements on the mat, and then decided to become a Strength & Conditioning Coach to better himself and others.

Ashoka has worked in both the private sector and collegiate settings as a strength coach. In 2013 he joined the San Jose State University Judo team as their strength coach, helping them win 3 National Collegiate Titles from 2014 to 2016. Ashoka trained SJSU Judo Team Captain Colton Brown for 4 years leading up to the 2016 Olympics, which he then qualified for.

Ashoka is always looking to get better at his craft and be the best he can be, both mentally and physically. He has worked with the best in the world, including Mike Boyle's Strength & Conditioning gym near Boston (voted #1 gym in the country), volunteering with the San Jose Sharks, and Jiu-Jitsu training in Hawaii & Brazil.  Ashoka took 2nd place at the U.S. Open in 2018 as a brown belt in Jiu-Jitsu and will be training for his black belt in 2022.

Ashoka currently runs his own personal training business, Body By Ashoka. He also serves as the head youth coach for Jiu Jitsu at Allied MMA in Santa Cruz, CA. He also teaches for the Personal Training Program at Cabrillo College where he mentors up-and-coming fitness professionals.
