Most people think that once they’ve made their 20% down payment that the home buying process is over. Technically it is, but there are still a few costs that you’ll have after the deal is finalized. Here are a few things to take care of after you’ve got the keys to a new home.

1. Change all the locks and keys. You don’t know who has copies of the old keys. By replacing them, you take away any liability on your part.

2. Buy a lawn mower. If you’re living in a detached home, you’ll need one in order to cut the grass.

3. Patio furniture. You may or may not need things like an umbrella, a grill, or other patio furniture.

4. Snow removal equipment. A shovel is cheap, but a snow blower isn’t. You might be able to find some good deals online though.

5. Window coverings. You’ll need to get either shades, blinds, or curtains.

6. Appliances. If you’re in a newer home, you might luck out. However, there’s a good chance you’ll need to replace some of your older appliances.

These are just a few things to keep in mind. If you have any questions or want more information about what you should be doing once you move into a new home, give us a call or send us an email. We look forward to hearing from you soon.
