During covid many issues were highlighted but nothing as significant as elderly abuse which saw a 250% increase. This is unacceptable and as a society we must look at how we change the conversation. Join us as we speak with Laura Tamblyn Watts Founder and CEO of CanAge, Canada’s national senior advocacy organization.
Laura is a passionate advocate on a variety of urgent issues affecting older Canadians, including long term care and home care, financial security, elder abuse, health care, ageism, and inclusion of marginalized communities. She spent over 20 years defending the rights and dignity of older people as a lawyer and thought leader and today she is the voice on aging issues and is frequently sought after as a media commentator.
Laura shares with us her recipe to support our senior community, how to find purpose and engagement at an older age. She also highlights the importance of taking a view from how you would want to be treated upon entering senior years. She helps us navigate the difficult conversation if you suspect elder abuse and the different steps you can take in supporting someone living with abuse.
She also shares with us how ageism is impacted in the work force and what you can do about it. Organizations don’t typically look at older employees when crafting DEI policy as it usually looks at younger generations or women but ageism should always be included in those policies. This is how we start the change the narrative.
