Remote work and labor shortages have increased the number of disabled workers & experts say it may be permanent.
Welcome to "Disabled Americans Are Going Back To Work" on the What's The Matter With Me? Podcast
There are plenty of sound effects in this week's episode, like a xylophone and a noise like, "Fweet!" that we hear while reading through "For Disabled Workers, a Tight Labor Market Opens New Doors" by Ben Casselman in the New York Times to find that changes ushered in by working remotely during the pandemic might have positive effects for the disabled workforce, and these changes could be long-lasting. Also this week, I continue to build stamina and regain my independence, taking some trips with the kids all by myself for the first time since July. *sound effect*

I took the kids to the library by myself on a Saturday afternoon
To give my wife some alone time- we were gone for a couple of hours
She slept
My daughter is reading books- she read books at the library by herself
Monday they were off school- we went to Big 5, EPL, and back to the library
Tuesday I went to Stanford to meet with the surgeon who performed the rhizotomy for my final post op appointment
Wednesday I drove to Oakland & got my hair cut
Last night I cooked Collards and ham hock, miso ling cod, broccoli and rice
I'm back in the kitchen
I Contain Multitudes
Song of Myself, 51
Walt Whitman - 1819-1892
The past and present wilt—I have fill'd them, emptied them.
And proceed to fill my next fold of the future.
Listener up there! what have you to confide to me?
Look in my face while I snuff the sidle of evening,
(Talk honestly, no one else hears you, and I stay only a minute longer.)
Do I contradict myself?
Very well then I contradict myself,
(I am large, I contain multitudes.)
I concentrate toward them that are nigh, I wait on the door-slab.
Who has done his day's work? who will soonest be through with his supper?
Who wishes to walk with me?
Will you speak before I am gone? will you prove already too late?
