Welcome back! 😃 This 3-episode ‘Access to Justice and the Rule of Law miniseries’ ⚖️ focuses on lived experiences and practical solutions. We speak with experts, guardians and a former child in conflict with the law. 🎙️Wakili.sha Podcast is Wakili.sha Initiative’s advocacy tool. Wakili.sha Initiative promotes access to justice and education for children in conflict with the law through free legal representation; mentorship, talent & skills development; and public awareness & advocacy.

In this episode, Elizabeth Njambi speaks with Jecinta Agunja and James. Jecinta is a parent and a human rights defender at the Coalition for Grassroots Human Rights Defenders Kenya (CGHRD-Ke), based in Mathare, Kenya. James is a former child in conflict with the law from Kayole, Nairobi, Kenya. Elizabeth Njambi is the Founder and CEO of Wakili.sha Initiative; as well as Wakili.sha Podcast Co-host and Lead Strategist.

James shares his experience going through the child justice system: what he went through, what he learned and what he hopes for other children in conflict with the law. Jecinta shares her experience protecting her own children and those in her community. We ask both of them what justice means to them; and what should be done to realize access to justice for all.

While these conversations are important, they are also quite heavy. To decompress, as always, we play a game!😃 If Liz, James and Jecinta had to be one item of clothing, what would they each be? Watch/listen till the end to find out!

NB: Since the recording of this episode, James, Jecinta and their communities in Kayole and Mathare have been greatly affected by the heavy rains that wreaked havoc and caused floods in Nairobi in the months of April. Please reach out for details on how to offer support.
