Jonathan Greene Vroom Veer Stories

Currently writing everyday on medium working up steam to write a novel; he already wrote to screenplays which was really cathartic
Test questions that are looking for the "best answer" vs. the right answer drive both of us a little bit crazy
Born and raised in Brooklyn Heights in New York until 8th grade; moved to North Hollywood, CA during the "Valley Girl" thing; lived in the Valley for 4 years; finished High School in boarding school in New Jersey
Fish out of water in 8th grade--showed up to the first day of school in blue corduroy pants and a Yankees Jersey; the valley kids wore OP shorts and Quick Silver T-shirts with cool haircuts
We both have come to love moving; Jonathan's father would sell homes just as they were finished fixing everything
Standardized school system is broken; it is stuck in the past
Went to college to play basketball thinking he was going to be the best; not so much; ended up failing out of college after two years
Went to a new college and took classes that were interesting; graduated with honors 3 years later
Wasn't concerned so much with grades in law school; more interested in learning to become a great lawyer; got a job within a day of passing the bar exam
During 9-11 he was working in a government office building which was evacuated after the 2nd plane hit; this sparked a move to a job with a lower volume of crime
First day of new job; the files were a mess--because "this is just how we do things"; nope, that won't fly
The one question that derailed his career with the FBI
Veered away from working in the law after his dad died; Spent 5 years working in the art world; didn't want to continue in the criminal justice while raising kids
Learned to embrace the "veers" in life and to keep moving to the next thing
Mentioned the blog Mr. Money Mustache who talks about reducing expenses and saving more money to retire as soon as possible
Yes meditation is discussed as we both have a practice
Mentioned the Michael Pollan episode of Tim Ferriss podcast about how learning to shut of the ego part of your brain can help big problems like climate change and tribalism
Spent 3 years working in real estate; was required to answer his phone; so he quit that gig
Mentioned the Ryan Holiday Book "Ego is the Enemy" that is my Amazon affiliate link
