Every day leading up to Christmas we will be reading, studying, and reflecting on a chapter of the Gospel of Luke. There are twenty-four days leading up to Christmas and twenty-four Chapters in Luke. We are going to enter the celebration of the birth of Jesus with a full context of his life and ministry. My hope and prayer for each of us is that we fully experience a closeness to Jesus like never before.

Luke 15 gives us arguably the most popular parables of Jesus, delivered back to back and to the same audience, Pharisees. Which may change the way you have traditionally read them. Jesus tells the parable of the shepherd leaving the 99 sheep to chase the one lost one, and also the parable of the prodigal son. We tend to look at ourselves in these parables and interject ourselves as the lost sheep, the lost son. But Jesus’ intention in teaching was to draw attention and comparisons to the Pharisees and religious people and legalistic rule followers and the heart of God.
