Goal's Seth Vertelney brings you the latest American women’s soccer news.

The U.S. women’s national team advanced to the Olympic semi-finals by defeating the Netherlands in a penalty shootout on Friday. The two teams tied 2-2 after 120 minutes of action, with Lynn Williams and Sam Mewis scoring for the U.S. and Viviane Miedema scoring both goals for the Netherlands.

The U.S. will now face Canada in the Olympic semi-final on Monday after the Canadians advanced with a shootout win over Brazil in their quarter-final match.

In the other two quarter-finals, Australia defeated Team GB 4-3 and Sweden got past Japan 3-1, setting up a semi-final between Australia and Sweden on Monday.
